Enio on the Toronto Sounds Good Podcast!!
Toronto enthusiast Shawn Caza, who mans this wonderful site dedicated to the endorsement of everything good coming out of Toronto, has just released his latest “Toronto Sounds Good” podcast featuring ENIO!! The podcast includes the song “Each Year” from Enio’s latest album entitled “Today” (which is available now for pre-order here).
Be sure to check it out by clicking here, or clicking on the picture below.

Enio’s new album TODAY is complete!!
Enio has placed the last finishing touches on the album, let his partner listen to the entire thing to make sure he liked it, and now…(da da da DA!) the album is COMPLETE!!
That’s right, 11 tracks: 2 cover songs and 9 originals, with help from Enio’s closest friends. Brilliant New York-based poet (and soon to be brilliant New York-based young adults author) contributed some beautiful lyrics for Enio to work with. Enio wrote a song from Billy’s poem “To My Dad, Parents, Family” featured in his poetry memoir “Talking in the Dark” available here. The song perfectly encapsulates how Enio feels about his family these days and because both he and Billy both loved the song, decided to include it on “Today”. Billy also contributed a beautiful poem that was re-worked to become the tracks “Good to Each Other” and “The Table” with additional lyrics by Enio.
Antonella Scali also contributed some songwriting abilities for the album. Antonella (coincidentally Enio’s best man at his wedding) helped co-write the tune “We Go Together (Like Hats & Scarves)”–an upbeat, occasionally silly little ditty that the duo wrote back in 2008 in support of their long-awaited Gordon’s Whine Bar debut.
Also contributing songwriting skills is Enio’s long-time music pal Caroline Brooks of Good Lovelies fame. Enio and Caroline wrote “Nothing Closer” originally titled “The Whole of Me” (but changed for this album for obvious reasons), back in 2006. Originally featuring much different (more sexual) sentiments, Enio tweaked most of the lyrics for the verses to reflect how Enio feels about his partner–also, in an attempt to make it more family appropriate as both their parents will be listening to the album. The chorus and the bridge remain in tact from the songs original incarnation.
Enio also dipped into cover territory for TODAY. Sade’s 2000 classic “By Your Side” has always touched Enio, so he decided to cover it here–the song will most likely be the couple’s wedding song. “I have always loved this song. It is the epitome of what I consider to be a great love song, embodying support, love, kindness and strength, without being too schmatlzy or Glee-ish.”
Enio also decided to record his version of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”, a song he played for his friend on her wedding day in March of 2010. The rendition was such a hit, and the album being about weddings, family and friends, that its inclusion here just seemed logical.
The tracklisting for the album is as follows:
1. I Have You On My Mind (You’re In There All The Time)
2. By Your Side
3. We Go Together (Like Hats & Scarves)
4. Nothing Closer
5. Each Year
6. To My Dad, Parents, Family
7. The Table
8. Just Like Heaven
9. Today
10. Good To Each Other
11. Hanging Out With Venus
The album’s first single is also the first song on the album “I Have You On My Mind (You’re In There All The Time)”. The song is a bouncy call back to the pop hits of the 50s and 60s, written about the newlywed’s increasing anticipation of the momentous day. You can listen to the song here:
Getting Married and Making Music part III: Sade’s “By Your Side”!
The next track to be previewed off of the upcoming wedding album, entitled “TODAY” and set to be released to the public on July 5th, 2011, is my cover version of the classic Sade track “By Your Side“!! I have always loved this song. It is the epitome of what I consider to be a great love song, embodying support, love, kindness and strength, without being too schmatlzy or Glee-ish.
The original version of this song will most likely be our wedding song (ie. the song that’s played for our first dance as a married couple). I say most likely because I still have to convince Jamie that this should be the song, for two reasons:
1. The song is beautiful and perfectly encapsulates our relationship — we are supportive, loving, and on each other’s side.
2. It would blend in the theme of the album perfectly (hehe).
For now, have a listen to my version. When I recorded it initially, I had both an acoustic drum going and an analog drum beat, but it sounded like I was singing a karaoke version of the song. So I took out the analog drum machine and made it more of a simplified bass-oriented acoustic rock number, and I think it works well, you be the judge. Please do let me know what you think!
Cover of Enio’s new album “TODAY”!!
So here is the cover for the new upcoming album “TODAY” set to be released on July 5th, 2011.

Today – lyrics
“Today”
Today is all I have been waiting for
Those messages I sent have washed ashore
They washed up right, right by your front door
You took the time to see who I was looking for
And though today took so long to arrive
I had today in the back of my mind
I always knew that I would survive
And tumble down straight into this nose dive
Today, today, today…
Today has all the things I desire
My world’s in here, and you I admire
With you I won’t object to conspire
For the things we do until we retire
Today, today, today….
‘Today’ is a song I wrote with the intention of writing a completely different song. There is this really great indie artist who has this wonderful song I can’t stop listening to, and my intention going in to writing ‘Today’ was to mimic that style. This guy’s song had tonnes of rhythm pattern changes, and highs and lows, and instrument changes, it was great–very Jeff Buckley. I picked up my friend’s Les Paul electric, which she generously let me borrow for the recording of this album, and I started to play some chord progressions, but before I knew it I was writing something more in the vein of Sun Kil Moon, or Calexico. I had also decided to record as I wrote. Sometimes I’ll sit for hours and flush out a song, only to be unmotivated to actually record it, but this time I decided to keep the mic next to me, and piece it out bit by bit as I wrote the song. This is the second completely brand new tune written for the new album.
Getting Married and Making Music – Part II
Here is the second track to be previewed from the upcoming album I am writing and producing for my upcoming wedding. The song is called “Today”, and you guessed it, is the title track off of the album TODAY. Most of the album is compiled of older songs I have re-written, cover songs written by others, or collaborations written with others. There are about 2 brand new songs and “Today” is one of them.
I haven’t ever officially written a love song to my future husband, so “Today” is one of two written specifically for him. Have a listen below. If you want to keep up to date on the previewing of new tracks for the upcoming album, join the Facebook event!
Hanging Out With Venus – lyrics
“Hanging Out With Venus”
Hanging out with Venus, that’s what I’d prefer
I’d keep the world at a distance, a beauty in its blur
But now I find I’m displaced, from my comfort zone
I stare as you speed forward, and I let go of what I owned
And the world slips by
And I don’t even mind
As we…sit up on high
As we watch them spy…on us.
And now I can’t even recall, what it is I used to do
But it don’t really matter, ’cause I’m doing it with you
And the world speeds by
And we are frozen in this time
It’s just a past we knew
(As we)…sit up on high
And we watch them spy…on us.
I wasn’t even looking, I didn’t even try
But I have you in my corner, right here by my side
And I won’t give you up now, I won’t let you go
If you ask what I’d be without you, well, I wouldn’t even know…
And the world speeds by
And we are frozen in this time
It’s just a past we knew
(As we)…sit up on high
And we watch them spy…on us.
The song is basically self-explanatory. The verses used to be a different song, but as I had mentioned before, I got stuck with it and never managed to turn it into more than a few lines. I guess I needed the right motivation to make it more…
